Sapura set to send 98/2 structures to ONGC
Sapura Energy is preparing to dispatch the completed structures for ONGC's Cluster-2 fields at KG-DWN-98/2 from its Lumut construction yard in Malaysia.
Expect the Transportation and Installation (T&I) contractor McDermott International to load out the topside of the Control and Process Platform (CPP) and the jacket and topsides of the Living Quarters and Upstream Platform (LQUP) from Lumut in early December (2023). McDermott's hired transportation barge BOA-33 is expected to reach Lumut on December 9 (2023).
After loading the LQUP jacket, BOA-33 will depart on December 19 (2023) to reach Cluster-2 by January 4 (2024). Sapura's partner, Afcons, will hammer 30 piles into the seabed to install the jacket, which is expected to be completed by February 5 (2024).
But piling needs a work barge, which McDermott is yet to confirm. McDermott's hired barge, Holmen Pacific, will likely reach Lumut by December 16 (2023) to pick up the CPP topside and is expected to depart by January 5 (2024) to reach Cluster-2 by January 25 (2024).
Holmen Pacific will have to wait for the LQUP jacket installation to be completed to install the CPP topside using the 'float-over' method atop a jacket installed by Afcons in 2021. If the LQUP jacket installation is completed by February 5 (2024), the CPP topside installation can happen by February 6 (2024).
By November 9 (2023), McDermott had not confirmed which barge would transport the three LQUP topside modules from Lumut to Cluster-2 for installation atop the jacket. McDermott is also yet to confirm which barge will transport and install the flare stack lying ready for over a year at Das Offshore's construction yard south of Mumbai.
McDermott was to load out the CPP topside and the LQUP jacket and topsides from Lumut by November 15 (2023) but will miss this target because it delayed giving Sapura the transportation barges' technical specifications. "Sapura can only make 'sea fastenings' (secure the structures onboard) and make other arrangements to load out of these heavy steel structures after receiving the barge dimensions," says a source.
